UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital to create a Community Room on the Burbank Campus
Leominster, MA – The Bullock Building, originally constructed in 1953 and named after Richard Bullock, Directing Trustee, has been a vibrant part of the UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital Burbank Campus in Fitchburg over the years. Recently, it has been under demolition due to concerns over structural safety and the high cost of maintenance. The recently dormant building had been out of circulation for the past several years. “Our Burbank campus will continue to meet the needs of our patients and provide high quality care to our community. Services in the Simmons Building, the building adjacent to the Bullock Building include; Burbank Urgent Care, Lab, Radiology, and Physical Therapy Plus including sports medicine. The regional flagship in cancer care is located at the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center as well as the Simonds-Hurd Complementary Care Center. HealthAlliance Fitchburg Family Practice is also located on our Burbank Campus,” stated Deborah Weymouth, President & CEO UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital. The short term plans moving forward with the new vacant space on campus include a relaxation garden and to build a community space to be utilized for educational and training programs focused on the health and wellness needs of the community. “We look forward to the opportunity to continue collaborating with our community partners with projects regarding improving the health status of our region in the newly constructed community room,” said Deborah.
UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital, also recently announced that Northeast Remediation, LLC, a company that has been involved in the demolition, discovered a time capsule in a capstone that had been placed in the building by Curtin & Riley Architects in 1953. An unveiling of the time capsule and its contents will occur later this spring.
