LIDER is a program of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce. The full name is the Latino Initiative for Development of Entrepreneurship and Resources, but that acronym is just the starting point. In Spanish, lider is pronounced just like the English word leader. The name was chosen deliberately by the Latino business and community leaders who came together to build it.
The Chamber’s full name in Spanish is the Camara de Comercio del Norte Central de Massachusetts, and LIDER carries that identity proudly. It is a program rooted in the Chamber’s mission, and grounded in the language, culture, and experience of the community it serves.
LIDER is for any Latino business owner: whether you’re launching your first idea, growing a small business, or leading an already-established company. It’s also for businesses looking to connect with the Latino business community, and for anyone who believes in this region’s full economic potential.

For more than 40 years, the Chamber has connected Latino business owners to bilingual staff, programming in Spanish, microloans through the North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation (NCMDC), and a seat on its board and committees. LIDER brings that work under one roof, with a name, an identity, and a home of its own within the Chamber.

LIDER is not a separate organization from the Chamber. It is a council focused on a specific community within the Chamber, built around a shared identity and common interests, designed to give members a more tailored, relevant experience. LIDER joins an already robust roster of existing councils, including the Manufacturing Council, the HR Council, the Women’s Leadership Connection, and the Future Leaders Group.
Members who join through LIDER are not joining an isolated group. They will be welcomed by hundreds of member businesses across 27 communities, with access to five decades of regional relationships, state and federal advocacy, economic development resources, and a platform connecting businesses to each other, to elected officials, and to the institutions shaping regional policy, alongside a community that intimately understands their experience and speaks their language, literally and figuratively.
LIDER’s direction and programming are guided by a steering committee of Latino Chamber members, business and community leaders who help shape the council’s priorities.

LIDER’s programming centers on what helps Latino businesses grow: networking events that connect entrepreneurs with each other and the broader Chamber membership, workshops on financial literacy and access to capital, and professional development on government procurement and growth strategy.
That focus is deliberate. Cultural celebrations and community events are already done well by organizations like Centro Celeste and the Spanish American Center, so LIDER concentrates on what it does best: business growth and economic opportunity.

Latinos represent a significant and growing share of the population in cities like Fitchburg and Leominster, well above the statewide average. Latino workers already make up a significant and growing share of the regional workforce, particularly in manufacturing, construction, and healthcare, and that trend continues to grow both locally and nationally.
For businesses that want to attract, retain, and develop that talent, LIDER is a connection toward economic mobility. Latino-owned businesses are also potential customers, suppliers, and referral partners for every member of the Chamber.

LIDER is the Chamber. There’s no separate membership to apply for. When you join the Chamber, you’re automatically part of LIDER and everything it offers: a seat at the table, notices on meetings and important business updates, and full access to our network and the work we’re doing together. We’d love for you to join us.
That said, you don’t have to be a member to get started. Anyone can participate in LIDER events and programs, member or not. Membership simply gives you access to preferred pricing and the rest of the benefits below.
