The Community Leadership Institute (CLI) offers a unique 9-month immersive experience designed to develop the next generation of leaders who will shape our region’s future. Through hands-on learning, exclusive access to regional leaders, and collaborative community projects, CLI participants gain the skills, connections, and insights needed to lead effectively in today’s technology and knowledge-driven economy.

Each year, CLI accepts up to 25 participants from diverse industries and roles within Chamber member organizations.

Program Structure

The CLI experience spans from October to June each year, featuring nine comprehensive, day-long sessions:

Personal Leadership Development (October)

• Introduction to personal leadership with expert facilitators
• Executive luncheon with sponsors and leadership

Non-Profit Governance (November)

• Deep dive into board responsibilities and community engagement

Education (December)

• Explore educational institutions and initiatives shaping our region’s future
• Connect with leaders in K-12, higher education, and workforce development

Media & Crisis Communications (January)

• Master effective communication strategies through hands-on practice

Healthcare, Law & Justice (February)

• Explore healthcare trends and regional justice systems

Arts & Culture (March)

• Discover the rich cultural landscape of North Central Massachusetts

Legislation (April)

• Experience the State House and engage with policy leaders

Manufacturing & Economic Development (May)

• Understand the economic engines driving our region

Debrief & Commencement (June)

• Celebrate achievements at the Chamber’s Annual Business Meeting

Bonus: CLI participants receive season tickets to seven Chamber breakfast events featuring diverse speakers and networking opportunities, plus access to select Chamber special events throughout the program year.

Community Impact Project

Throughout the program, participants collaborate on meaningful community projects that create lasting positive change in North Central Massachusetts. These projects allow participants to apply their leadership skills while making a tangible difference in our region.

Application Process

1. Nomination: Executive sponsors identify high-potential candidates from their organization
2. Application: Candidates complete the online application with four short essays
3.  Selection: The CLI Steering Committee reviews applications and notifies accepted participants

• Application Deadline: August 15
• Notification of Acceptance: Late September
• Program Start: Early October

Investment

Tuition: $2,050 (includes all program materials, lunches, and Chamber breakfast series tickets)

A limited number of half-tuition scholarships are available for non-profit organizations. Please include a letter of request with your application to be considered.
