Just a week after they had been sworn in, we held our <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9792 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n-705x529.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/49897244_10157308168595016_1356492865559068672_n-450x338.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/>annual legislative briefing with the North Central Massachusetts Delegation, highlighting our State House goals for 2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The topics discussed included economic development, regional planning, support for the tourism and manufacturing industries, and education reform.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Before the month was out, the Chamber rallied support behind three bills which address several of these issues.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>These included legislation focused on industry certified credentialing in high schools and two bills which support the region\u2019s growing visitor industry.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In other news, the Chamber also recently testified at a public hearing on the proposed regulations associated with the new Paid Family and Medical Leave Law.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Once codified, these regulations will guide how the recently established Department of Family and Medical Leave enforces this law.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Having reviewed the current draft, we attended a public listening session in Worcester and voiced concerns over the administrative burdens for small businesses and a lack of clarity regarding approval of private, alternative plans.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Chamber will also host a public session with the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development on March 8, providing local businesses an opportunity to testify or ask questions about the regulations.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9791 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824.jpg 1765w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-265x300.jpg 265w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-768x870.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-909x1030.jpg 909w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-1324x1500.jpg 1324w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-622x705.jpg 622w, https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_9824-450x510.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/>To raise awareness of the recommendations from our recent report <i>Build North Central Massachusetts: Promoting the Industrial Heart of Massachusetts<\/i>, we also organized editorial meetings with regional press outlets and conducted outreach to legislative leaders.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Chamber hopes that the report will help inform and motivate public policy leaders as they begin the dialogue around education reform.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Chamber will continue to monitor these vital issues and ensure that the needs of the North Central Massachusetts Business Community are not ignored by Beacon Hill.
