{"id":2962,"date":"2015-12-29T15:47:48","date_gmt":"2015-12-29T15:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/?p=2962"},"modified":"2016-05-10T20:18:09","modified_gmt":"2016-05-10T20:18:09","slug":"2962-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/es\/2962-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s New This Season at Wachusett Mountain!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u><\/u>PRINCETON, Ma. \u2013 Even though the 2015-2016 season has been underway for almost 1 month, few skiers or snowboarders have had a chance to see some of the improvements mad at Wachusett Mountain for this winter.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a look at some of the changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>New State-of-the-Art Covered Carpet<\/u><\/strong> Lifts \u2013 The Easy Rider Carpet has been replaced by a state-of-the-art \u201ccovered\u201d carpet.\u00a0 Beginner skiers and snowboarders can now ride the 500-foot protected from the elements.\u00a0 The 300-foot Ollies Lift has also been replaced this season.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>New Terrain Park Location<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Wachusett\u2019s award-winning terrain park is being moved this season from Look Mom to Hitchcock Trail.\u00a0 It will continue to feature a wide variety of jumps, rails and boxes.\u00a0 A smaller progression park will remain on Frannie\u2019s Folly Trail.\u00a0 Wachusett is also partnering with <strong>Clif Bar<\/strong> this season as the presenting sponsor of the mountain\u2019s Air Bag.\u00a0 The bag will open sometime in January to sharp new grapics from the popular energy bar.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>New Maple Room<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 This new larger Mountain Suite Option will quickly become one of Wachusett\u2019s most popular meeting rooms.\u00a0 The <strong>Maple Room<\/strong> combines the previous Cedar, Elm\/Fir Suites into a well-appointed function space that can easily accommodate more than 100 guests.\u00a0 Improvements were also made for Black Diamond Restaurant patrons \u2013 providing them with new rest rooms adjacent to the restaurant, as well as access to the outdoor deck for food &amp; beverage service.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>New Night Ticket and College Pass Programs<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cLate Shift\u201d Night Ticket \u2013 new night ski ticket from 7-10 p.m. for only $47 Sunday to Thursday night and $50 Friday and Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 New College UPASS \u201c3-Peat\u201d Card \u2013 College students who do not purchase a UPass season pass still have an opportunity to purchase 3 days\/nights of skiing or riding anytime for only $139.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>New Members of the Wachusett Team<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Kevin McDonald<\/strong>, 62, is Wachusett\u2019s new Ski Patrol Director and Risk Manager replacing long-time director Mike Halloran.\u00a0 McDonald, a retired Worcester Firefighter and former member of the Worcester Police Department, has been an active patrol member since 1968 when he began as a junior patroller.\u00a0\u00a0 He has previously work on the patrol as a Hill Captain and member of the Professional Day Patrol.\u00a0 McDonald is an EMT and has also earned several commendations during his career as a patroller and firefighter.\u00a0 He lives in Douglas, Ma. with his wife Carol and has 4 adult children and 2 grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Bill Lawton<\/strong>, of Princeton, Ma., is the new Volunteer Patrol Director.\u00a0 Entering his 40<sup>th<\/sup> year on the Wachusett Patrol, Lawton brings a wealth of experience, dedication and knowledge to the position.\u00a0 He has served as Hill Captain, was a previous Patroller of the Year and has been an OEC instructor and currently serves as EMARI Assistant Regional Director.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Charlie Rabe<\/strong>, 33, of Stow, Ma. is the new \u201cComp\u201d Team Coach.\u00a0 Formerly the Xtreme Team, the Comp Team provides training to kids to compete in freestyle events.\u00a0\u00a0 Rabe is in his 7<sup>th<\/sup> season at Wachusett working as an instructor and trainer.\u00a0 He has also worked as head coach of the Boston University Snowboard Team.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>New Expanded Parking Lot <\/u><\/strong>\u2013 Wachusett guests will notice significant improvements this winter to the mountain\u2019s lower Number 2 &amp;
