{"id":18459,"date":"2023-01-17T10:55:52","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T15:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/?p=18459"},"modified":"2025-04-13T23:05:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T03:05:24","slug":"red-apple-farm-provide-an-authentic-new-england-family-farm-experience-year-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/es\/red-apple-farm-provide-an-authentic-new-england-family-farm-experience-year-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Apple Farm provide an authentic, New England, family farm experience year-round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Al Rose speaks about Red Apple Farm it is easy to see his passion for his business, his family, his apples, his home and his life.\u00a0 Rose\u2019s enthusiasm is infectious and is easily translated to all aspects of Red Apple Farm\u2019s operation.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1912, Rose has carried on the multi-generational farm and converted it into one of North Central Massachusett\u2019s best-known businesses and tourism attractions.\u00a0 With more than 100 full and part-time employees, Red Apple has expanded from its family farm and farm store in Phillipston to Wachusett Mountain \u2013 where it operates the unique Bullock Lodge Cider House and The Core in the Main Base Lodge.\u00a0 If that wasn\u2019t enough, Rose has taken Red Apple Farm to Boston \u2013 where is operates the largest storefront in the popular Boston Public Market.<\/p>\n<p>Rose\u2019s business philosophy is simple.\u00a0 \u201cWe provide an authentic, New England, family farm experience year-round,\u201d he said when asked what separates Red Apple Farm from its competition.\u00a0 It\u2019s that authentic New England experience that Rose feels is most special about doing business in North Central Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt reflects who and what we are and closely aligned to our mission,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cNorth Central Massachusetts is New England at its core, from the people who live and work here, to the communities and natural and historical landscapes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rose has also perfected the art of collaboration, teaming with businesses like the Gardner Ale House and Wachusett Mountain Ski Area to expand his business.\u00a0 With Gardner Ale House, he created his Brew Barn and Cidery at the Farm and started brewing his own hard cider.\u00a0 With Wachusett Mountain, he helped reopen the historical Bullock Lodge where he serves fresh cider donuts and hot cider to hundreds of skiers and snowboarders each winter.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s that local collaboration which Rose credits in helping his business and others work through the COVID pandemic the past couple years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntrinsically people value local and keeping it local,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are fortunate to be in area that is considered by many folks, whether they live in Central Mass or in Boston, to be there backyard! Those are connections that seemed to strengthen during the pandemic and moments of economic uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rose says his customers\u2019 \u201cever-changing needs and wants\u201d are Red Apple Farm\u2019s strongest influence.\u00a0 He has learned how to adapt along the way, noting that \u201cparticularly the intangible needs (like safety and being grounded during Covid)\u201d were so important.<\/p>\n<p>Rose looks at his employees as part of his family.\u00a0 In describing Red Apple\u2019s workplace culture, he said \u201cwe call our employees \u2018farm-ily!\u201d\u00a0 He looks for qualities in his employees that share his same business values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look for employees who focus on adding value, cultivate authenticity, and celebrate community,\u201d he said.\u00a0 Rose added that Red Apple Farm is \u201c100% in\u201d on supporting the community.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s who we are,\u201d he proudly noted.<\/p>\n<p>One look at Red Apple Farm\u2019s website clearly shows the farm\u2019s great heritage, history and authenticity:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRed Apple Farm is a fourth-generation family farm,\u201d the website proudly claims. \u201cRed Apple Farm is truly a place to connect the past and today! \u00a0Our farmhouse and barn were built in the mid-1700\u2019s. The encompassing stonewalls and stately maple trees represent the icons of days gone by and a labor of love that is still found today in the farm\u2019s breath-taking atmosphere and true sense-of-place.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSituated right off scenic Route 2 in the heart of North Central Massachusetts, the orchard boasts views of Wachusett Mountain and sprawling fields outlined by untouched forests. Every year our fruit is grown using\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/redapplefarm.com\/our-growing-practices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Integrated Pest Management<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0with conscious thought to people and the environment.
