This is a unique opportunity to improve our public spaces by incorporating nature-based solutions (like rain gardens and tree planting) and elements of Complete Streets\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">(such as shared use paths and improved crosswalks)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking input from the community to inform initial designs for the current project within the JFH roadway\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">between Lunenburg Street and Summer Street<\/span>.\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">Community members are encouraged to share your vision for the JFH Corridor<i>\u00a0<\/i>and the innovative ideas for making the area more climate resilient. Comments are being accepted now through March 12, 2021 at\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(5, 99, 193)\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arcg.is\/SqTn80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"\">https:\/\/arcg.is\/SqTn80<\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">. We want to hear from residents of all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">Community members can also get involved by submitting a creative piece to the Envision John Fitch Highway Artwork Challenge. Show us what improvements you want to see in the Corridor to reduce flooding, make it greener, and improve bike and pedestrian access! Artwork submissions can be hand-made or computer-generated (full submission guidelines can\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(5, 99, 193)\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchburgma.gov\/DocumentCenter\/View\/7709\/Artwork-Challenge-Submission-Guidelines-English\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"\">be found here<\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">). Submit by March 12 to be entered into the Artwork Challenge! A winner will be selected within categories divided by age and medium\u00a0<a name=\"x__Hlk60219901\"><\/a>to receive a prize. Watch the City\u2019s website and social media accounts for updates on future events and engagement activities.<\/p>\n<p><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">Mitigating flooding of Baker Brook into JFH was a top priority in the City\u2019s 2020 and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.fitchburg.ma.us\/DocumentCenter\/View\/7566\/Fitchburg-HMP-MVP-Draft-Report_2020-11-02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"\"><span data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) and Hazard Mitigation Plan<\/span><\/a><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(250, 250, 250)\">.\u00a0<\/span>The initial design phase is funded by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs MVP Action Grant Program.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish versions available for comment and submission forms.
