{"id":14474,"date":"2020-11-05T14:13:08","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T19:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/?p=14474"},"modified":"2020-11-05T14:13:08","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T19:13:08","slug":"an-update-from-the-north-central-massachusetts-chamber-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/es\/an-update-from-the-north-central-massachusetts-chamber-president\/","title":{"rendered":"An Update from the North Central Massachusetts Chamber President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Roy Nascimento, IOM, CCE<br \/>\nPresident &amp; CEO<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">C\u00e1mara de Comercio del Norte Central de Massachusetts<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">As fall begins to give way to winter, we continue to be laser focused on helping our members and communities navigate these troubled waters.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We know that balancing everything that has been thrown at you this year has been difficult and stressful.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since the start, the Chamber has responded with guidance, resources and a strong support system to help you adjust and respond.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I wanted to provide you with another update to continue to keep you informed on some of the Chamber\u2019s most recent efforts:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Business Impact Survey:<\/b> As a follow-up to the initial survey done in March, the Chamber is conducting a second survey to understand the continuing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The first survey was very helpful to form our response.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This new survey is intended to capture fresh data and dive deeper into the impact to local businesses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The survey will build off the last one and support ongoing recovery efforts.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Please consider taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/QXSLDBV\"><span class=\"s2\">survey<\/span><\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Responses will be kept confidential, however results will be shared in the aggregate. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Jobs Board:<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b><span class=\"s1\">We have improved some features of our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.WorkNorthCentral.com\"><span class=\"s4\">www.WorkNorthCentral.com<\/span><\/a><\/span> <span class=\"s1\">jobs board. These changes are intended to make it easier for job seekers to find job opportunities that match their interests. Visitors now have the option to search by company, job descriptions and location, plus they can filter their results by industry and employment type.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Job seekers can also sign up to receive emails on new job postings.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since we launched WorkNorthCentral.com last year, the online jobs resource has grown into the largest localized jobs board in the region.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Over 700 jobs are currently posted on the jobs board and more are added every day.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As a reminder, job postings are completely free for Chamber members and posting is easy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We encourage you to take advantage of this resource for all your hiring needs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Low Interest Loans: <\/b>We are excited to launch a new loan program through our economic development arm \u2013 the North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation \u2013 that we believe will be a great help to many small businesses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We have structured this new loan program to provide loans of up to $150,000 with very flexible terms, low fees and interest rates as low as 1% for existing businesses and 5% for start-up businesses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Monthly payments will also be deferred for up to one year on the loans, depending on the situation.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The new loan program is being funded by a federal grant we received and can be used for a multitude of purposes including working capital and refinancing existing debt.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Please reach out to us if you are interested in exploring a loan through this program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Marketing Efforts:<\/b> We continue to develop marketing campaigns through our tourism arm \u2013 Visit North Central Massachusetts \u2013 aimed at supporting economic recovery in the region.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We believe that recovery must start locally, so we are targeting the local population and the regional drive market with messaging about the region and supporting local businesses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our marketing is informed by research that suggests that North Central Massachusetts is potentially well positioned to benefit from changing consumer demands.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We have developed new locally focused content, new messaging and we are utilizing digital and social media channels to promote, connect and engage with consumers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The results from our Fall campaign are encouraging and we plan to continue to ramp up our efforts with more paid and organic social media and advertising in the comings weeks and months. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Advocacy: <\/b>We were pleased to see the Governor release his revised FY21 budget proposal which included many of our priorities to support economic recovery, including $100 million in new small business relief.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The budget still needs to be approved by the legislature, so we will be working to make sure that happens in the coming days and weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s6\"><b>Gift Local Gift Cards:<\/b> As thoughts start to turn toward the holidays, I wanted to remind you<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> about the Chamber\u2019s Gift Local Gift Card program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This shop local initiative was established several years ago and has taken on a new urgency given the impact from the pandemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you are a local merchant or restaurant, then consider signing on to accept the gift cards.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Alternatively, if you are a local employer<\/span><span class=\"s3\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">then consider supporting local merchants by purchasing these gift cards for your employees or clients.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>All fees have been waived.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You can find more Programs:<\/b>\u00a0The way we all live and work has changed dramatically, but we know it remains critically important for you to stay informed and connected with our communities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since the start of the pandemic, we have made it a priority to deliver relevant programing to you \u2013 hosting nearly seventy-five different online programs that have helped to inform, educate and connect our members and communities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We encourage you to check our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/es\/\"><span class=\"s2\">website<\/span><\/a> and social media platforms for updates on upcoming programs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0
