{"id":10432,"date":"2019-05-07T09:27:53","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T13:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/?p=10432"},"modified":"2023-12-07T16:34:43","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T21:34:43","slug":"paid-family-medical-leave-act-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northcentralmass.com\/es\/paid-family-medical-leave-act-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Paid Family &#038; Medical Leave Act Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are updates to the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Private Plan Exemption Process Now Available at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/exemptions-from-paid-family-and-medical-leave-for-private-plans\">https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/exemptions-from-paid-family-and-medical-leave-for-private-plans<\/a> <\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Family and Medical Leave&#8217;s private plan exemption process is now available for\u00a0businesses in the Commonwealth with Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) plans\u00a0offering benefits that\u00a0meet or exceed those provided by the Commonwealth\u2019s PFML law.<\/p>\n<p>The updated exemption web page includes:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information on required documentation<\/li>\n<li>Information on how to calculate the required surety bond<\/li>\n<li>Links to details from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue on how to file for an exemption from making family or medical leave contributions to the Department of Family and Medical Leave with MassTaxConnect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications for exemptions for private plans must be submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue\u2019s web-based application <a href=\"https:\/\/mtc.dor.state.ma.us\/mtc\/\"><strong>MassTaxConnect<\/strong><\/a> by June 30, 2019. Contributions to the program for those not receiving an exemption will begin on July 1, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workforce Notifications, all languages now posted at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/informing-your-workforce-about-paid-family-and-medical-leave\">https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/informing-your-workforce-about-paid-family-and-medical-leave<\/a> <\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Family and Medical Leave has posted an additional six language options to the notice required to be provided by employers\u00a0and covered business entities to their current workforce\u00a0of PFML benefits, contribution rates, and other provisions as outlined in M.G.L. c. 175M sec. 4 on or\u00a0<strong>before May 31, 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The notice, which may be provided electronically, must include the opportunity for an employee or self-employed individual to acknowledge receipt or decline to acknowledge receipt of the information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note! Federal Employer Identification Number<\/strong><br \/>\nThe identification number assigned by the Department of Family and Medical Leave will be the employer\u2019s Federal Employer Identification Number (\u201cFEIN\u201d).
