Leominster Credit Union Connection Ceremony

Friday, December 11, 2009

December 11, 2009  -- Leominster Credit Union approached the final stage of its construction and renovation project last week by staging a Connection Ceremony celebrating the joining of its new, 30,000 square foot Executive and Operations center with the existing LCU building on Adams Street in Downtown Leominster.

Gordon R. Edmonds, LCU's President and CEO, presided over the ceremony on the elevated walkway connector along with Giulio G. Greco, Chairman of the Board, Amedeo E. Bilotta, Vice Chairman, and Richard A. Sheppard, Treasurer. Mr. Edmonds wielded a ceremonial sledgehammer to symbolize a new beginning by joining the former main office with the new facility.

"This is an exciting final step for the employees and members of Leominster Credit Union and for the Leominster community as well," Mr. Edmonds stated.  "We couldn't be happier with the entire construction process and look forward to moving our staff into their new home.  The LCU campus, seamlessly forged by blending the original office site with the new structure, commands a stately presence in Downtown Leominster and reaffirms our commitment to the city's economic future."

According to Roland Paquette, LCU's Facilities Manager, "Construction has progressed smoothly and is right on schedule.  Our new building is 90% complete.  We expect to receive a Certificate of Occupancy later this month.  Some highlights of the new facility include a handicapped ramp and lift for access to the building and a generator to allow for uninterrupted operations in the event of power disruptions."  LCU executive and operations staff will relocate to the new building in January 2010, centralizing workflow and enhancing communication and member service.  Cosmetic upgrades to the original LCU site will continue through January.

Mr. Paquette said the entire campus will be extensively landscaped in the spring.  The evergreen tree used to symbolize growth and good luck at LCU's July 2009 Topping Off Ceremony when the final beam was moved into place, will be planted at the main entrance.

LCU announced its plans to build a three-story building alongside its long-time headquarters at 20 Adams Street just one year ago.  The former Odd Fellow Building at the corner of Adams and Union Streets was demolished to make way for new construction.  The new structure, designed by DRL Associates and constructed by Commodore Builders, boasts a brick and cast stone exterior with an impressive two-story glass atrium at the main entrance capped by a curved masonry sign.  The original LCU building received an exterior facelift with the addition of signs bearing the LCU logo.

Leominster Credit Union is planning a Grand Opening for the LCU campus in Spring 2010.
